European Curry Bondy

I had my health check this morning and because I worked a little late I hadn’t eaten since lunch yesterday. I was starving. I had recently found the Wednesday hiding place of my favorite taco rice yatai, but they are on vacation this week and next. I walked around to find an alternative and came across Bondy which I had been wanting to try. Bondy is a few minutes of Ogawacho station, not quite halfway to Jimbocho. This area has quite a few curry shops that I’ve been wanting to try, especially since my office recently moved a little closer. Unfortunately it’s been too hot to walk 15 minutes for curry. I find Japanese and European curries to be rather similar. The latter places having French sounding names and higher prices. Bondy didn’t disappoint there and the curry was great. They have a variety of curry with a few mixed options and three levels of spiciness. I got the spicy beef curry with cheese. 1400+200 yen for the cheese. About twice what I prefer to spend. The beef was several large blocks and surprisingly lean for Japan. This scored big points for me. If I am being picky it could have been a little more tender. The curry had a nice kick to it, but it wasn’t really all that spicy. It’s not going to light your mouth on fire, so don’t be afraid of it if most curry is too tame. It’s good that it’s not too spicy, because it had a wonderful complex flavor to it. If you are hungry I’d recommend getting omori for only 150 yen extra. They used some good cheese too, but eat it quickly before it cools too much. Definitely one of the better curry places in Tokyo, but a little pricy for lunch, but a reasonable dinner.
